“Race: Are We So Different?” Exhibit Receives Renovations

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is pleased to announce that renovations to the “Race: Are We So Different?” exhibit have been completed. Visitors will notice a change in layout, paint, and a new mural!

Originally developed by the American Anthropological Association in collaboration with the Science Museum of Minnesota in 2007, the exhibit explores race through a biological, historical, and cultural lens to better understand human variation. In 2017, the NCMNS hosted the special exhibit and due to its popularity, decided to buy and create a version of the exhibit focused on race in the Southeastern United States. Since 2022, this renovated version exhibit has been hosted at the NCMNS. Additionally, “Race: Are We So Different?” also consists of a traveling exhibit, a series of retractable pop-up banners created to reach a wider audience across North Carolina.

The exhibit is located on the 4th floor of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in the Nature Exploration Center. Museum hours over the summer are Monday–Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
